How to Obtain a Marriage License in Las Vegas

(Step-by-Step Guide)

Getting married in Las Vegas is exciting, fast, and surprisingly easy—even if you’ve never been here before. One of the best parts? Nevada makes the marriage license process simple and stress-free. Las Vegas is one of the easiest places in the world to get married, especially for couples traveling from out of town. With no waiting period, no residency requirements, and same-day licenses, the process is designed to be simple so you can focus on what truly matters—celebrating your love.
If you’re planning a Las Vegas wedding or elopement and want guidance every step of the way, I’d love to help capture your day beautifully.
This guide will walk you through everything you need to know, from applying for your license to receiving your official marriage certificate after the wedding.
Step 1: Apply for Your Marriage License Online
Before arriving in Las Vegas, you can save time by completing the online marriage license application through the Clark County Marriage Bureau.
Both partners must complete the application together, 💡 Tip: Apply online a few days before your trip so you’re ready once you arrive.
You’ll receive a confirmation number once submitted
Important: The application does not replace the in-person visit, but it speeds things up significantly.
Step 2: Visit the Clark County Marriage License Bureau (In Person)
Once you’re in Las Vegas, both partners must go together to the Marriage License Bureau to finalize the process.
What to bring:
- A valid government-issued photo ID (Passport, driver’s license, or state ID)
- Your online application confirmation number (if completed)
Licenses are issued the same day, and the office is open 365 days a year, including weekends and holidays.
Step 3: Receive Your Marriage License
Once approved, you’ll receive your marriage license immediately.
Important things to know:
The license is valid for one year
It can only be used within Nevada
You must give it to your officiant before the ceremony
That’s it! You’re officially ready to get married!
Step 4: Get Married 💍
Your officiant will complete and sign the marriage license after the ceremony.
In Las Vegas, the officiant is responsible for:
Filing the completed license with Clark County
Submitting it within the required timeframe
You don’t need to do anything during this step—just enjoy your wedding day.
Step 5: Obtain Your Official Marriage Certificate
After your officiant files the license, it will be processed by Clark County. Once processed, you can order your official marriage certificate.
You can:
- Order it online
- Request standard or expedited shipping
This certificate is what you’ll use for:
- Name changes
- Legal records
- Insurance and benefits
- Proof of marriage
💡 Tip: Order multiple copies if you think you’ll need them later.
